“PARADOX OF OUR TIME”

This article has been circulated in the e-mail for quite sometimes…from what I know, since 1999. I like it so much even though there is some controversy about who is the real writer. Please take the time to read it and think about it!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints.
We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life.
We've added years to life not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor.
We conquered outer space but not inner space.
We've done larger things, but not better things.
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.
We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.
We write more, but learn less.
We plan more, but accomplish less.
We've learned to rush, but not to wait.
We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships.
These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one-night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, quiet or kill.
It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. Indeed these are the times!
HOSPITAL NAMES IN SINGAPORE...
NO OFFENCE...IT'S JUST A JOKE! sengihnampakgigi
Do you know why New Changi Hospital (NCH) changed its name to Changi General Hospital (CGH)?
Because NCH stands for "Never Come Home". That's why business was very bad before it changed its name.
Now CGH stands for "Can Go Home". So business is picking up.
Business in Singapore General Hospital (SGH) is still going strong because SGH stands for "Sure Go Home"!
Now National University Hospital (NUH) is also considering a name change. It stands for "No Use Hospital"!
What about Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) ?
Not too good a name, no wonder so much problem.
It stands for "Tiam Tiam Si Hospital" and now 'Tan Teo SARs Hospital".
So, be careful of choosing which hospital to go if anyone is unwell.setan
ABOUT GROWING OLD...
I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life and my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly.
As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself.
I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avant garde on my patio.
I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.
I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.
Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60 & 70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love ... I will.
I will walk the beach in a swimsuit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to,
despite the pitying glances from the jet set.
They, too, will get old. I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.
Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.
I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.
As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.
So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free.
I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day (if I feel like it).
SOUVENIRS FROM OUR KAMPUNG!
We just came back from northern Malaysia where our kampung is.
Look what we brought back...“Ikan Puyu”!!!
Ikan Puyu is also known as Ikan Betuk in Malay. The scientific name for it is Anabas Testudinues. It possess an air-breathing organ that enables them to survive out of water for quite sometime and it is said that this fish could bury itself in mud during the dry season until the rain comes…how interesting is that? In English, it is called the Climbing Perch because it is said that the fish is able to climb trees.
My son was the one that wanted the fish for so long as they were hard to find here. They are a hardy species that can tolerate most water conditions... eat almost everything like any other fish, as they are not fussy eaters. The best part is...they could survive even if you didn’t change the water for almost a month. Great isn’t it? setan
Sadly, they are aggressive and unsuitable for community tanks...
they will fight with other fishes and eat the smaller ones...
but they are surely very easy to look after!
For some people the best part is that...they can eat the fish later when it’s big enough...but do you really have the heart to do that kind of thing to your pet? I can't and I won't!!! sedih
Anyway, some people also believe that this fish has mystical power that could ward off evil spirits and fighting black magic, but I don’t...how about you?
Brought Them Back From Almost 800km
Its New Habitat For Now...
